Body building may be a favorite past time of many, but do you know what body building really is? This is done for the purposes of competition or merely to look their best. It is very difficult to resist the appeal of professional and amateur bodybuilders who have developed strong solid muscles through persistent effort and hard work. How do you identify the main criteria to get the best possible result that fulfills all requirements of the body building standards? To begin the discussion on this interesting topic, you would need to realize that there are two parts to an effective body building program, exercise and proper nutrition.

This is an indispensable part of a body building program-weight training! It is important to possess physical strength and endurance to perform weight lifting exercises, which often involve the use of machines and equipments that are specially designed to stimulate the necessary body parts. Body building is a form of sport, but there are many who adhere to a strict body building routine for aesthetic purposes. It is amazing to see how weight lifting can enhance the overall appearance and structure of the body, and they are beneficial when recovering from injury. It is good to include weight lifting into any health or rehabilitation program, under the strict guidance of a medical professional.

A good diet and nutrition is essential to ensure that you get the best out of your body building program. It is important to ensure that athletes who follow strict body building program to have the best nutritional and high protein food. Keep in mind that carbohydrates are the main energy source of the body and they are mainly taken from complex sources. Remember to include foods that are rich in carbohydrates such as brown rice, sweet potato and oatmeal. It is important to consume a lot of fiber in your diet to assist digestion and metabolism during your body building program.

Remember to drink plenty of fresh, energizing water. Start a healthy habit by drinking plenty of water just before you embark in a vigorous routine at the gym and pamper yourself by indulging in more refreshing water after a tiring session. Make it a habit to drink between exercises. Often, the presence of a good instructor would be necessary to teach you the way to lift weights and how to perform proper stimulation for the body parts without creating any damage to the ligaments and tendons.

To avoid muscle and joint injury, it is important to carry out warm up and stretching exercises prior to any fitness training workout. Exercising can be further improved by learning some other points related to this. Stretching increases the ability of muscles to flex and contract and is just as useful when you have finished exercising. This flexibility is further improved when you carry out muscle and tendon stretching exercises after you have finished any physical activity.

Although a twenty second stretch is sufficient before a routine, if this increased to a minute per movement there is a considerable increase in the flexibility of the muscles and limbs. Many people make the mistake of stretching and returning to their original position to quickly when the movement should be slow and measured. Ideally the stretch should last a few seconds then a slow return because it is easy to damage joints or even pull muscles when this is not done correctly. Always start with the easiest exercises first until you have warmed up sufficiently to carry out the more difficult ones and ensure that all the muscle groups are warmed before you start training.

Injuries to the neck can be common because most people neglect warming it up; the easiest way to carry this out is by using the palm of your hand, alternate placing pressure from on the forehead to the back of the head and then the sides. If you carry out regular stretching prior to fitness training you will be surprised just how flexible your body becomes and it will increase your ability to perform certain training. Never try to compete with the abilities of others as this is a sure way to injure yourself; even if not at the time, you will almost certainly feel it later when you body has cooled down. There are days when your body may be too tired that you may have to consider reducing your range of motion so learn to rest in between sets and stations to make sure that the body has enough time to recover its energy.

Every athlete knows that muscles need to heal and grow from physical exertion so give yourself a day off between fitness training and exercising; your body will appreciate it. The best exercises you can perform at the gym are those that will help your heart, lungs and stamina; called aerobic exercises they can include a whole host of regimes including running, stepping, rowing plus many more, all of which need large amounts of oxygen in the blood. Music may help you when you want to train for longer periods or to increase your intensity and the latest lightweight portable mp3 players are ideal for this. Make sure you get a decent pair of headphones though because you will probably want your music loud but not everyone else will want to listen to it. Apart from preventing injuries and increasing your limit, it is also said that stretching is good for a tired body and also for a stressed mind and spirit.
